Artist's Comments

Gay-rights activist Harvey Milk was the first openly-gay elected official in the United States. After multiple failed attempts in the mid 70's, he was finally elected, and served just about eleven months on the board of supervisors in San Francisco before he was brutally murdered in his office in City Hall along with the Mayor Geroge Moscone by fellow supervisor Dan White.

His life's story is an inspiration, and his death is a tragic loss that can never be forgotten.

His story was recently imortalized in the full-lenght motion picture "MILK" directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diago Luna, and more. go see it today.

I just saw this movie tonight; it was beautiful! I had no idea that gays were treated so...horribly! Half of my friends are gay and my sister is as well, and I can't even comprehend the idea of them being beaten or even killed because of who they love. It makes me sick that such things happen. Beautiful picture depicting a beautiful person!

This is beautiful work.

I'm surprised this isn't a DD. Your realism takes the cake. AND I love that you rendered the real Milk instead of the actor Sean Penn.

This is amazing and incredibly accurate! A great tribute to a great man. I agreed with =kittenreject, this should be a DD!

I just watched the movie. And like Anna said on the interviews, I was inspired. It was an amazing story. The drawing looks alive :)
